Trip To China

Well, I went to China this week, to a city called Xian. It is on the northern side of the country. I spent 9 hours for the first flight and another 2 hours for the second one, including 3 hours transit in Shenzen. Things were going well although I am shocked that a very few Chinese people speak English, not even broken English, let alone have a proper conversation with me. There are several students here who have the courage to start some conversations during the conference tea break, but that is all. I even struggled to say what I wanted to the front officers of the hotel (I stayed at Jiyuan International Hotel, it definitely has an international label on its name).

The food was nice though, not very different compared to the food I have in Indonesia, although it was a bit spicy (salty and stuff) for me. And I walked outside the hotel for about 2 hours without finding any interesting thing during the walk. The cloud was so thick that I could barely see the sun. The hotel is in front of a university, and I believe I heard a herd of students chanting some Chinese languages all night long, and surprisingly there were fireworks!

Anyway, the conference was nice. I met some experts in the cryptography areas; they are professors and PhD students. They seem to know what they are doing. I felt that my paper was not really in line with the main topic of the conference. But it was accepted anyway, I cannot complain. This definitely is a good experience, and a very proper motivation to continue doing research. I want to be among the experts of my field and build my own credential based on my expertise.
